Rose City Psychological Center, LLC was founded by Amber Valenkamph, PsyD (she/her/hers). Dr. Valenkamph received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Adler University in Chicago, Illinois. Her education was grounded in the university’s mission of graduating socially responsible practitioners, engaging communities, and advancing social justice.

These values continue to be reflected in her career and passion for the field of mental health. Dr. Valenkamph has an extensive history of working with underserved and underrepresented populations, such as individuals with serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI), youth incarcerated in the juvenile justice system, children in foster care, adult children of mentally ill or addicted parents, the elderly, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Dr. Valenkamph also serves as an expert witness in juvenile and family court on matters related to the effects of attachment disruptions, childhood trauma, and neglect.

Utilizing a person-centered approach, Dr. Valenkamph tailors each session to the needs and goals of the individual. With evidence-based interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) at the root of her approach, Dr. Valenkamph takes pride in delivering these interventions in a warm, playful, and compassionate manner. In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. Valenkamph provides psychological testing/assessment for a variety of presenting problems and concerns. She has completed hundreds of evaluations for children, teens, and adults related to cognitive, academic, emotional, and behavioral differences.

Dr. Valenkamph views psychology as the marriage of arts and science. With all interventions grounded in current research, she approaches them with creativity and an open-mind. Related to her education under the practitioner-scholar model, Dr. Valenkamph considers herself a lifelong learner – eagerly pursuing new training opportunities and devouring information about the latest developments in psychology. Dr. Valenkamph opened RCPC with the goal of improving access to effective and ethical treatment that is simultaneously approachable, convenient, and transparent.
